STRONG SENTIMENT OF CLANS AND KINSHIP

"In the Army and the various branches of civil administration, in commerce and in other non-official capacities which Scotland's sons have chosen, they have brought home to the principalities and the people of India, amongst whom their lot has been cast, that sterling honesty and grit, no less than those intellectual and physical gifts which have made your country what it is and your countrymen what they are. I have been greatly impressed by the close resemblance in so many things between the Scotsman and the Rajput, that warrior race of India to which I have the honour to belong. The strong sentiment of clans and kinship which prevails so widely in Scotland as in Rajputana is a link between us."
