BRINGING CIV7ILISATION INTO THE DARK PARTS

"I came here to a city whose people have always fought for liberty, as regards ordinary civil rights and, therefore, I feel entirely at home among you today. The Boers in South Africa have much in common with the Scottish people. In South Africa we have many Scots, and I am glad to be able to say to you today that the Scottish people in South Africa have always maintained the name and fame of Scotland. They have done much for the State and also for the Church, in South Africa. Nay, more, they have contributed to exploring South Africa and other parts of Africa, and bringing civilisation into the dark parts of that great continent."
