These streets were constructed on the estate of the Dukes of Abercorn, who have also been connected with Ulster since 1634. James 2nd Marquis and 1st Duke of Abercorn was twice Lord lieutenant of Ireland, 1866-8, and 1874-6. The seat of the present Duke is Barons Court, Co. Tyrone. One of his other titles is Baron of Kilpatrick and these streets were first named Kilpatrick Crescent etc. This decision was rescinded and 'Ulster' names substituted. No reason was given by the Committee for the alteration. |
