OAK LANE 1973 Not officially named by appropriate committee of the Town Council because it was not recognised as a street within the meaning of the 1967 Order. The street was named by residents. There is a large Oak tree at the entrance.

OLD BURDIEHOUSE ROAD 21.11.68 Formerly part of Burdiehouse Road renamed with effect from 1.2.69 because this became a separate road after construction of the dual carriageway - see Burdiehouse Road -part II.
OLD CHURCH LANE 14.4.66 Formerly Church Lane renamed with effect from 1.11.66 because of duplication. Named from the ancient parish church of Duddingston located in this street.

Named from the farm called "The Old Farm" the buildings of which were located where these streets are constructed. It was formerly called Colinton Farm on the fields of which Redford Barracks was constructed in 1914.
OLD KIRK ROAD 5.7.23 This street was constructed on part of an old road which led to Kirk Loan and thence to Corstorphine Parish Church. The road can be traced from Ravelston Dykes Road, up Rest and be Thankful, across Corstorphine Hill, through ground now part of the Zoo. It proceeded to the north of Corstorphine Hill House (now within Zoo) and along where Old Kirk Road is today.
OLD MILL LANE 7.9.61 This is the old road leading to the community of Nether Liberton where an old mill exists on the banks of the Braid Burn. Confusion with the street called Nether Liberton required an alternative address for residents.

- An extensive nursery existed to the rear of the ancient Dower House in Corstorphine High Street formerly the orchard of this house. This street was constructed on part of the grounds of the orchard .

- In 1854 the grounds of Pilrig House extended as far as Leith Walk where existed a side name "Orchardfield". It seems obvious that this lane led to or from, the orchard of Pilrig House.

Sixth in line of succession to the estate of Over Liberton was William Little, died 1685. He left his lands to the 2nd daughter of his sister Sarah who had married Walter Rankin of Orchardhead Stirlingshire. He was succeeded by Gabrial Rankin of Orchardhead who assumed name of Little.

Constructed on the estate of the Trotter family of Mortonhall. Richard Trotter (1797-1874) 10th in line of succession to the Mortonhall estate, married in 1836 Mary, daughter of Gen. Sir John Oswald of Dunniker.

Oxford Street, built about 1861 was constructed on the site of Oxford Park which it is said was much frequented Newington by gypsies.
OXFORD TERRACE - The Earldom of Oxford was not created until 1925 and as this street was constructed about 1854 it is no doubt named after the town of that name. More probably however the University. Eton Terrace, adjacent, was to have been called Cambridge Street.

Named from Oxgangs Farm which was located at the southern junction of Oxgangs Road North and Colinton Mains Drive where the police station is now situated. "Oxgangs" is an old Scots measure of land of approximately 13 acres which was the amount of land that could be ploughed by an ox-drawn plough in 1 year.
