KAIMES ROAD 6.3.24 "Kame" or "Ka(i)m(e)s" means a long narrow steep sided mound or ridge, a hill ridge of zig-zag shape. This street mounts the ridge of Corstorphine Hill steeply and obviously this is the source of the name.
KATESMILL ROAD - Paper manufacturers and printing house proprietors, Hamilton Balfour & Neill decided in 1783 to add to their mills and rebuilt an old mill further upstream which was called Kate's Mill named after Katherine Cant, wife of John Balfour of the above firm who was connected with the Balfour family of Pilrig House.

The Keith Family occupied Ravelston House for many years. One was knighted and became Earl Marischal in 1822.
KEKEWICH AVENUE 2.5.29 Following the death in 1898 of the member of the Christiemiller family who owned the estate of Craigentinny a solicitor, Mr. C.G. Kekewich took over and for a number of years did much work in the running of the estate.

KENMURE AVENUE - Possibly from Kenmure Castle, Kirkcudbrightshire the seat of Viscount Kenmure. Compare other streets in the vicinity, also noted residences, Lismore, Scone, and Glenlee all built at the same time (1907). See also Glenlee Avenue.
KERR STREET - The buildings in Kerr Street were demolished in 1973 but the carriage-way still exists. In 1843 numbers 2 to 9 existed and numbers 8 and 9 were owned by a Mr. J. Kerr, a local proprietor.

From the old house and estate of Kingsknowes now a roadhouse called "The Kings Knowe". The "knowes" or hills would be from the hilly landscape of what is now Kingsknowe Golf Course.

KINGSTON AVENUE 14.7.38 Formerly called Craigs Road. Named from Kingston Grange (formerly "Craigs"). The owner was at one time a Mr. Hay of Duns Castle who changed the name from Craigs to Kingston Grange in 1780 in memory of his ancestor, Viscount Kingston.

Kirkhill Road (1909), probably a made-up name becauseit was constructed on a hill and the religious reference (Kirk) may be to the lands of Priestfield on which the street is constructed. These were church lands conferred with other lands upon the Abbey of Holme-cultram.
