JAMES CRAIG WALK 1.6.72 James Craig was the architect who planned much of the New Town. In making plans for the celebration of the bi-centenary of building of the New Town, the Lord Provost's Committee decided that a street in the St. James Square Redevelopment should be named after James Craig.
JEAN ARMOUR AVENUE 23.1.75 Corporation Kirk Brae Development where names are selected from associations of Robert Burns. See Alloway Loan. Jean Armour was the wife of Robert Burns.
JEFFREY AVENUE 3.4.24 Lord Francis Jeffrey, Lord Advocate 1830, M.P. for Edinburgh 1832, Court of Session judge 1834 occupied Craigcrook Castle until his death in 1850. The street is constructed on the Craigcrook estate.
JOHN KNOX WAY 1.6.72 A letter from Loyal Orange Institution of Scotland dated 29.11.71 asked that a street be named to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the Death of John Knox. This existing un-named walkway was chosen as suitable.
JOPPA GROVE 5.1.22 Joppa Gardens, Park, Road, and Terrace existing and giving rise to district name joppa. The name is very old and was originally a row of miners cottages and said to have taken name from being near to the sea like Joppa in what was known as Palestine. See also Joppa - Part I
JUNCTION PLACE 26.4.29 Formerly 89 Great junction Street. Named from existing Great junction Street which makes a junction between Ferry Road and Leith Walk. See also Junction Street - Part I

Juniper Avenue formerly Belmont Avenue, renamed with effect from 1.8.67 because of duplication with Belmont Avenue, Corstorphine. Juniper Terrace formerly Pentland Terrace renamed with effect from 1.2.68 because of duplication. Juniper Park Road formerly Park Road renamed with effect from 1.2.68 because of duplication. Name "Juniper" selected simply because these streets are contained in the village of Juniper Green.
