Chart. 26/7/1775). He was a barber by trade. His lands were bounded on the west by those of the Incorporation of Baxters, the Bakers' lands, Can. Chart. 31/1/1776, 17/7/1822. The succession of owners of the property is given in the Canongate Charters. |
| VALLEYFIELD STREET | From the lands known as Valleyfield, feued by the town to John Marshall, 27 April 1687, o.e.c. x. 241. For sale 2/10/1806, eec.j.s. Valleyfield House stood till Glengyle Terrace was built, about 1809. o.& n.e. iii. 30. It bore the date of 1687, and the initials M.C.M., probably for Marshall. It was also know as Villafield, Kirkwood. Charter of waste ground commonly called Valleyfield, to Lt. Col. David Williamson, m.t.c. 4/8/1813. lands of Valleyfield, m.t.c. 12/6/1816, 21/5/1828. Alexr. Galloway, writer, infested in house and yard acquired from deceased John Marshall, west end of Bruntsfield Links commonly called Valliefield, m.t.c. 2/3/1705. James Galloway infested in house & yeard called Villefield, 18/1/1712. |
